HHI Shortened the Building Time to 55 Days through On-ground Building
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced that it completed the assembly of a crude oil carrier in 55 working days on ground without using a dry dock. HHI has shortened the construction period by 35% to 55 working days from 85 working days from keel-laying to load-out in just two years since the first on-ground shipbuilding. Since successfully completing the on-ground shipbuilding, HHI has complemented inadequate economical efficiency by lowering the building time to the level of construction time in a dry dock through technical improvement such as the installation of larger blocks.
In addition, HHI cut down on building cost by minimizing the transportation of hull blocks and improving the work safety through the arrangement of four ships in rows together along with the quayside. The world's largest 1,500-ton gantry also makes it possible to handle mega ship blocks for commercial vessels on the ground. HHI held a naming ceremony for two 105,000-dwt crude oil carriers, for which HHI had significantly advanced the building time, for Novoship of Russia, at the Offshore Yard on the 11th of January. HHI has so far completed a total of six(6) crude oil carriers on ground, and it is scheduled to build ten (10) crude oil carriers and seven (7) LPG carriers by the “On-ground Shipbuild” Method.
