Martin Davies leaves Skyjack
Martin Davies, Skyjack’s European sales director, is leaving the company after more than 10 years to concentrate full-time on his commercial photography business.
His official departure date is the end of December, but he is already scaling down his involvement in the business. Skyjack is now looking for a replacement, with Mr Davies’ duties temporarily being taken over by Skyjack president, Lloyd Spalding, as well as Charlie Patterson, Skyjack UK managing director and Dave Stewart, Skyjack’s vice president of sales and marketing.
Both Skyjack and Mr Davies were keen to emphasis that his departure was amicable. Mr Davies told AI that after 10 years of “living in planes and out of a suitcase” it was time for a change. He said he had been planning the move for several years and felt that the time was now right, with the business “at the top of its game. We’ve never had a better year in Europe. I think I’ve achieved everything I wanted to do.”
Dave Stewart said; “We’re sorry to see him go – he’s done a great job for us. It’s very amicable – there’s no bad feeling on either side.”
The departure of Mr Davies, who is a popular and well-known figure in the industry, comes as Skyjack gears up for an important year. It will be re-entering the self-propelled booms sector in early 2006 – showing prototypes at the ARA’s Rental Show in February - and is also planning to invest in new Skyjack sales and service offices in Europe during the year.
Mr Davies, meanwhile, says he will be fulfilling a long-held ambition in establishing his own commercial photography business, called Fotogeniks. “I don’t know if it’s going to be easy”, he told AI, “but it will certainly be less fraught, and less of a corporate lifestyle. I want to follow my own road.” He did not, however, rule out a return to the access industry at some point in the future.
