OFFICIAL CATERPILLAR UPDATE - Medium Wheel Loaders

From: Caterpillar [info@cat.exvm.com]

RUGGED DESIGN OF STRUCTURE AND LIFT ARMS

The 4-plate loader towers and box section rigid designs manage high loads and offer excellent torsional resistance ensuring high machine availability and productivity. This avoids the need to have a larger counterweight to balance heavier front linkage – meaning that you move less dead iron.

PLANETARY TRANSMISSION

Planetary transmission – allows handling heavy loads and multi directional changes inherent in wheel loader cycles. Planetary transmission delivers long component life and extended service intervals.

FREE WHEEL STATOR TORQUE CONVERTER

The new torque converter design negates drag when on haul roads. This means the engine does not have to compensate for this drag and saves fuel, especially in load-and-carry or roading applications.

BRAKES

The use of multiple discs per axle with a large braking surface, increases brake capacity and gives extended brake life. For example the Cat 980G II has 3 oil-cooled discs per wheel giving a large braking surface (707 mm2) – up to twice the braking surface of other manufacturers’ machines.
